Writing has always been one of my favorite hobbies. In middle school I loved writing poetry. In high school, I started writing short stories. By college, I wrote an exorbitant amount of fanfiction (the nice kind), and I finally started attempting to write my own novel. Since college, I have continued to write for myself, and have made forays into blogging a few times. About four years ago I finally got the opportunity to start blogging for work, and that trend has continued in my current role. I’ve ghost-written a blog for a little over a year, and have enjoyed the challenge of writing in someone else’s “voice.” Earlier this year I had the opportunity to write website content, mostly technical descriptions.
I love getting to exercise my writing skills in different ways, but through all of my various writing adventures, I had never before had the opportunity to write product descriptions. Until just a couple of months ago. I was contacted by a natural skincare company to write product descriptions for each of their soaps, shower steamers, and even a couple of beard products. I didn’t know much about natural skincare, but I was excited for the opportunity. I received the scent profiles and ingredient lists and set to work researching what each ingredient provided to the individual products. I had no idea I would LOVE the process SO much.
Researching ingredients, stretching my creative muscles, and making every product sound as enticing as possible created the perfect blend of challenge and fun to make me fall head over heels. Since the completion of that project I have taken on a new adventure revamping the text of an already existing, but out of date, website. Being able to take the message and reword it to sound smoother, more approachable, and more descriptive makes me feel so fulfilled.
If you’re reading this and you have a small business (or even a big one ;]), and you know your website copy could stand to be updated, your product descriptions are a bit lackluster or even non-existant, or you KNOW your business could benefit from a blog, but writing just isn’t your thing, well, I’m your girl. Helping small businesses make the connection with their ideal guests is what inspires me. I would absolutely love the opportunity to help you showcase your business.
